My dad was an amazing checkers and it was always so rich to play with him because he was a great teacher of the game as well. When I would start to make a move that would cause me to loose a checker, he would say, “Are you sure you want to do that?” With a twinkle in his eye, he would coach you into making a better move. Most of the time he won the game anyway, but occasionally he let me win.

My dad finished his life here on earth about 3 months ago and is now with Jesus. I miss his encouragement, his love, and his presence more than words can say. What I wouldn’t give to be able to play a game of checkers with my dad today.

Thanks for this touching post. Our office is very sad today because Barb’s father-in-law passed away last night, suddenly. He was a close friend of PennywiseLearning.com’s as he would stop in and help us out from time to time. He will be greatly missed but praise Jesus we have a blessed hope that we shall see him again.

I loved playing good ole Go Fish with my grandmother. She always made me feel so special and probably let me win lots. I also played Checkers with my Dad and sister lots. My sister and Dad were quite competitive which made the game so much more fun! Scrabble (which probably helped my spelling lots) and Monopoly were also favorites at our house.

I was an only child with two working parents. I had a TV in my room at a very young age and was always jealous of my friends who had families who played games. We didn’t have any “heirloom” games. I had a few board games that were impossible to play alone. I am changing this with my own children. Games are really important to us.
